AN INTRODUCTION

For those who have been playing along at home and following my journey and my business, you’ll know that it’s been a million years since I’ve changed anything on the outside.

I’ve always likened running a business to being very much like having a baby .. but one who never really grows up. There is always something to be done, changes to be made, tears, tantrums, laughter, heart-exploding moments of joy …

And gosh it’s scary. It’s scary watching it grow. (It’s scary watching it NOT grow!) … Thankfully, I have been blessed with incredible families who trust me to create gorgeous memories for them – to create an experience and an environment where they feel nurtured and relaxed enough to give all of themselves to their little people and allow me to capture those little moments in time. I’ve been blessed with a business which has grown from strength to strength.

So … let me get to the ‘why’ behind the new logo …

I feel I get to witness the un-furling of a newborn. Tiny humans, with their perfect way of folding up – womb-like – in those precious first days and weeks – it’s so primal yet so delicate.

It’s not just the unfurling of a newborn as they grow, it’s the unfurling of a mother, a father, a sibling … the whole family grows together and takes strength from the one before …

The Maori Koru, a symbol of the unfurling of the New Zealand silver fern represents peace and tranquility … personal growth and rebirth. It is associated with new life and harmony and hope … and above all, a deep connection with the Earth.

A million generations ago (that’s an exaggeration, but you get the idea) one branch of my family tree originated in the Bay of Islands, NZ, and I’ve adored the simplicity of Maori symbolism and their connection with Earth for as long as I can remember.

And thus, the little fern frond was born. A simple pencil drawing, representing re-birth, new life, the unfurling of the new-born and the creation of this amazing thing called ‘family’.

Stay awesome.
